Department of Anatomy

Introduction

Anatomy is the study of structure and function of Human body.

Anatomy encompasses the following branches

  • Gross Anatomy
  • Microscopic Anatomy(Histology)
  • Embryology(Developmental Anatomy)
  • Genetics
  • Clinical Anatomy
  • Osteology(Study of bones)
  • Radiological Anatomy.

The Department of Anatomy is involved in teaching, and training of MBBBS and paramedical students (B.Sc Nursing)

History

Our department was established in 2006 under the able leadership of Dr.Elzy an eminent, teacher and a visionary.

Academic Performance

Our academic performance in undergraduate teaching programmes produced consistently excellent result to the tune 80-90 % pass in university examinations with university ranks and distinctions.The peak performance was in the year 2010-2011,when 100 students appeared for the examination, passed with distinctions, first classes and second classes.

The department has pursued its teaching and research agenda in recognition of the role of Anatomy in contributing to both and research in medicine .The objective of the department has therefore been to consolidate students’ understanding of Anatomy and other related disciplines and encourage them to develop intellectual independence, critical thinking skills and versatility for problem solving in Anatomy and medical sciences.

This and the core values have been the guiding principle of the research programmes.

    • Offering the students a good understanding of the basic structure of Human Anatomy by using at the cadaver and microscopic slides & other materials
    • Making students apprecieate that Anatomy is a subject of central and practical importance, contributing to both basic and applied research in medicine and surgery.
    • Encouraging students to develop intellectual independence,critical thinking skills and versatility.
    • Developing the practical skills of students to enhance their observational skills and to use these skills for clinical diagnosis and thus alleviating the suffering in the community.
    • to identify injuries and their importance in a case of battered baby syndrome
