Introduction

The department has an academic and diagnostic role. The academic wing in the College trains both under-graduate and post-graduate students.

The diagnostic wing is an important part of Central Laboratory in the hospital, comprising of hematology, clinical pathology and catering phlebotomy for IP&OP patients. The diagnostics wing also has a Service Laboratory in the college, mainly carrying out histopathology and cytology studies.

The department also runs a fully equipped major Blood Bank in the hospital.

History

The department was established in year 2006. Dr. Shankaraiah was appointed as the first Head of department in year 2007. In 2017 one of our students was awarded the medal in the Professor Ramachandran Memorial Gold Medal Award examination.
