Department of Nephrology

The Department of Nephrology is a specialized medical unit that focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disease related to the kidneys. This includes both acute and chronic kidney disorders, hypertension related to kidney disease, electrolyte imbalance, and systemic conditions that affect renal function, such as diabetes and autoimmune disease. The department provides comprehensive care through services such as haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis kidney biopsy,and pre-and post-kidney transplant management.It often works in collaboration with other specialities like Urology,Cardiology,Endocrinology,and other critical care.

Dialysis is a medical procedure used to remove waste products, excess fluids , and toxins from the blood when the kidneys are unable to perform this function adequately (kidney failure ) .It helps maintain electrolyte balance and prevents complications of renal failure.

Types of dialysis

INDICATIONS : Chronic kidney disease (end –stage reanl disease), acute kidney injury with severe fluid/electrolyte imbalance,or toxin removal.

PURPOSE :  sustain life ,relives symptoms of uremia,and improves quality of life, though it is not a cure for kidney failure
